How the peptide units to mcg calculator works

This peptide units to mcg calculator works backwards from a syringe. You tell it how much peptide is in the vial, how much water you added and how many units you drew. It finds the concentration, turns the units into a volume, and multiplies the two to give the dose.

It is the reverse of the peptide calculator, which starts from a dose and tells you how many units to draw.

What dose is 10 units on a U-100 syringe?

With a 5 mg vial mixed with 2 mL of water, 10 units on a U-100 syringe holds 250 mcg. Here is the math:

  1. Convert the vial amount to mcg: 5 mg × 1,000 = 5,000 mcg
  2. Concentration: 5,000 mcg ÷ 2 mL = 2,500 mcg/mL
  3. Volume drawn: 10 units ÷ 100 units/mL = 0.1 mL
  4. Dose drawn: 0.1 mL × 2,500 mcg/mL = 250 mcg
  5. Amount in each unit: 2,500 mcg/mL ÷ 100 units/mL = 25 mcg per unit
  6. Doses in the vial: 5,000 mcg ÷ 250 mcg = 20 full doses

What is the formula for units to mcg?

Dose (mcg) = units ÷ units per mL × concentration (mcg per mL).

Units per mL is 100 on a U-100 syringe, 50 on a U-50 syringe and 40 on a U-40 syringe. Concentration is the amount in the vial in mcg divided by the water in mL.

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out the dose from the units I drew?

Divide the units by the syringe's units per mL to get the volume, then multiply by the concentration. With 5,000 mcg in 2 mL, 10 units on a U-100 syringe is 0.1 mL, which holds 250 mcg.

How many mcg are in 1 unit on an insulin syringe?

It depends on the concentration of your vial. At 2,500 mcg per mL, each unit on a U-100 syringe holds 25 mcg. The calculator shows this "per unit" number for your own vial.

Does the syringe type change the answer?

Yes. A unit on a U-40 syringe is a bigger volume than a unit on a U-100 syringe. The same volume that fills 10 units on a U-100 syringe fills 4 units on a U-40 syringe, so always choose the syringe you actually used.

Why does it say the units are more than the syringe holds?

You entered more units than the selected syringe size can hold. Check the syringe size, or split the amount into two draws and add them together.

Is this the same as the peptide calculator?

It uses the same math in the other direction. The peptide calculator turns a dose into units to draw; this page turns units you drew back into a dose.
